Social Inclusion For ALL

Disabled Persons Housing Service (Borders)

In 2000 the Disabled Persons Housing Service (Borders) was set up to work with disabled people in either rented or owner occupied housing and who have a housing need.
We do this by working in partnership with the local housing providers, Scottish Borders Council, The Social work departments and with a lot of input from the Voluntary Sector.
Based now in St. Boswells we have moved to become a Social Enterprise through the community project, MandS Consultancy our trading arm. We also have AccessAble our group that has been set up to work on Access Issues formerly known as Central Borders Access Panel we firmly believe in using our premises to generate as much income for the project as possible. For future developments watch this space!!
AccessAble
Our access group is currently getting ready to visit the local towns with leaflets etc to try to raise awareness to the businesses in the town on compliance with the DDA. We will do this by taking some of our group to the town and visiting the shops, cafes and pubs to see if they can get in easily and if not how we can help them to make access available for ALL.
MandS Consultancy
Our trading arm has been extra busy over the last few months. We have been delivering training to the NHS on compliance with the DDA for staff and have just included the staff of SBC as well as spaces for the voluntary sector.
MandS has also been involved in a mapping exercise for the new Scottish Borders Social Enterprise Chamber on just how many Social Enterprise and potential Social Enterprises there are in Borders.
For information on just what the Disability Awareness training can offer please have a look at the intenarary for the course we have been offering to NHS Borders and if your group would like us to help with their own training please contact Michael at the office and he will work with you to tailor the training to meet the needs of your organisation
